Proper Yachts, Ltd. was founded on the site of the original Herreshoff yacht yard in Bristol, Rhode Island, with the committment to follow the standards of design beauty and construction excellence which was established by. Capt. Nat Herreshoff over a century ago. Today, Proper Yachts is dedicated to serving the greater sailing community from the bluewater sailor to the coastal cruiser to the active day sailor.

First of all, the Proper Yachts BROKERAGE team works closely with every client seeking pre-owned yachts, assisting in selecting the proper yacht to match your sailing desires and needs and experience level.

Secondly, Proper Yachts constructs and markets the HERRESHOFF ALERION 26 daysaailer/overnighter which, in the opinion of many, is the most beautiful hull shape ever created. The Alerion combines the beauty of classic hull form with the best of modern materials to create a boat that has timeless good looks and sprightly performance under sail. A direct descendant of Captain Nat Herreshoff's original 1912 classic design, today's Herreshoff Alerion 26 combines a traditionally beautiful hull shape with the reward of a boat that is lively, comfortable, and fun to sail.

Thirdly, Proper Yachts markets the line of HARBOR sailboats built by W.D Schock Corp., who for over 55 years has set the standard for quality performance sailboats. All Schock sailboats are 100% hand laid-up fiberglass and are engineered and built to yield maximum strength and rigidity:

The HARBOR 20
An elegant daysailer by the Schock design team, with traditional appearance, a comfortable/roomy cockpit, free standing Hoyt boom that is set up for stable, singlehanded ease and quick manuverability underway. No hiking required to keep her efficient hull on her lines. It is equipped with a roller furling jib and lazy jacks on the mainsail. The H-20 epitomizes "Sailing Made Easy". For spontaneous daysailing there is no better boat.

The HARBOR 25
A stunning new design with classic good looks, a performance hull shape, an amazingly roomy cockpit that comfortably seats six, and a beautifully finished cabin. The H-25 makes sailig fun and easy with a self-tacking roller furling jib and mainsail lazy jacks. It also has an inboard engine, a head compartment and bunks for overnight cruising. The design incorporates a lean hull shape, a fine bow and firm bilges, a 45% ballast ratio, and a bulb keel to keep weight low. A generous sail plan provides plenty of horsepower, yet the crew of the Harbor 25 will never need to sit on deck.

We have years of serving the sailing community as consultants and project managers for owners undertaking bluewater passages, distance race preparation, routine ship's husbandry, major refits or new construction.
